Frequently Asked Questions

Are the in-person EnACT modules different from the online ones?

The modules are exactly the same across both modes of delivery. The difference is who is in the classroom as online training gives you the freedom to learn at your own pace and in-person training harnesses the power of group learning and allows us to tailor aspects of the training to each team.

I want to book the EnACT in-person training for my team or organization—What do I do?

Connect with the Compassion Research Lab by using the contact tab at the top of this webpage.

Can EnACT be delivered over multiple days?

Yes, the one-day EnACT program can be repeated across consecutive days. Ideally, it is desirable and most efficient to deliver it over a single day, but in order to ensure clinical coverage and to allow entire teams to get certified, it can be delivered over the course of a few days. While training sessions can be spread over multiple weeks, this is not recommended as it leads to additional costs and takes away from the continuity of the program.

Do healthcare providers and senior leaders learn together or do they learn separately?

Because we know that compassion is a team sport, healthcare providers and senior leaders learn together. The curricular content of EnACT ranges from clinical skills training that is transferable to executive teams to specific content and exercises focused on how to improve compassion within the broader organization. In short, EnACT was designed to improve compassion from the bedside to the boardroom—and the evidence for EnACT supports this.

Who facilitates the online training?

EnACT in-person training is delivered by the Director of the Compassion Research Lab, Dr. Shane Sinclair. In addition to being an international research leader on the topic of compassion, he is also an award-winning educator and clinician.

How many learners can enroll in the in-person training and what is required of the host institution?

We do not restrict the number of learners at a single offering of the EnACT program. However, we have found groups of 20-40 individuals is ideal as EnACT is an interactive training program that contains group exercises, discussion, role-playing, and an environment that promotes learner participation and trust.

What’s included in the in-person training?

The introductory module and four core modules (6.5 hours of content), readings , learner workbooks, the compassion compass, and learner certificates. Additional individual resources and team resources can also be bundled into the program as needed.
